Crop-insurance seminar to be presented at 5 sites

URBANA – Area farmers can learn about how crop insurance can help manage their risk at an upcoming program planned at five sites around the state by the UI Department of Agriculture and Consumer Economics.
Gary Schnitkey, a farm financial management specialist, said the program will address how risk and returns can be managed using crop insurance.
"Specific emphasis will be given to 2008 changes in crop insurance products, including the introduction of Biotech Yield Endorsement," Schnitkey said in a press release. "Impacts of crop insurance product choice on forward pricing levels, pricing targets, and the use of options will be examined.
Schnitkey said the program will also address the impact of the new Farm Bill on risk.
Two professors in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, Darrel Good and Scott Irwin, will also serve as presenters during the program.
Upcoming programs will be held at the following locations: – Feb. 18 at the McDonough County Extension Unit office in Macomb.
– Feb. 20 at the Ford-Iroquois County Extension Unit office in Onarga.
– Feb. 26 at the Holiday Inn in Mount Vernon.
– Feb. 27 at the Holiday Inn in Rock Falls.
– Feb. 28 at the Macon County Extension Unit office in Decatur.
The programs run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. each day.
