Spontaneous travelers should have annual holiday insurance

Last-minute holiday makers should have an annual policy incase they forget to take out travel insurance, claims the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).

By having an annual policy, tourists who take advantage of cheap flights by booking spur of the moment holidays abroad don't have to worry about forgetting travel insurance.

Sean Tipton, press officer at ABTA, said: "If you're the kind of person who is fairly spontaneous and takes advantage of last-minute cheap deals then the easiest thing to do is take up an annual policy."

Tourists who book multiple holidays a year will also benefit from an annual policy, this applies to older holiday makers with 13 per cent of over 55 year-olds taking five or more holidays per year, according to a report by Alliance and Leicester.

"If you take more than two trips a year anyway then it's very sensible to do that because you'll get the benefits of it straightaway," added Mr. Tipton.

Research by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office revealed that the average cost of treating a broken leg in America was £24,000.
