Travel Insurance - Brits Top List of Travel Claims
04/09/2008
According to new research, nearly 50% of Britons have claimed against their travel insurance. In a far-reaching survey of nearly 3700 travelers from around the world, Trip Advisor found that the British were above average in claiming. 45% of them claimed compared to an international average of 29%.
Of those who claimed many found the process unsatisfactory. 23% reported problems dealing with the claims department, with the biggest problem coming substantiating the claim, which affected nearly 1/3 of respondents. 26% also found the process time consuming. There was good news though as only 14% reported being denied a claim.
Elsewhere in the report it was found that 75% would prefer to stay in a hotel over Christmas rather than stay with their in-laws. It was also discovered that many were leaving the UK completely over the festive period. The survey also found a contradictory result with many citing traveling away over Christmas alleviating holiday stress but conversely the travel itself being the most stressful part.
Michele Perry, Director of Communications for Trip Advisor commented:
"The holidays are for spending time with family, but it appears many travelers want that quality time in moderation,"
